Soccer player Carlene Nhu honored with Colvin Scholarship

Irvine Valley freshman women's soccer player Carlene Nhu was awarded the John Colvin Memorial Scholarship Thursday night by the Greater Irvine Chamber at the Distinguished Educators event at the Irvine Hilton.

Irvine Valley College (IVC) Professor Emily Liu was honored with a Distinguished Educator Award, and Nhu was recognized as the recipient of the John Colvin Memorial Scholarship.

An Irvine resident and former Northwood High student, Nhu received the scholarship which celebrates Colvin's love of fitness, a commitment to community and love of family.

The Greater Irvine Chamber established the John Colvin Memorial Scholarship in coordination with the Colvin family, in honor of John Greg Colvin, a long time-resident of Orange County and an active member of the Chamber, including serving as chair of the Business Attraction and Retention Committee. He passed in 2014 while training for an Ironman Triathlon.

Nhu has helped the Irvine Valley women's soccer team to a record of 2-2-1 overall so far this season.

She had one goal and one assist in Irvine Valley's 5-1 win over East Los Angeles at home on Tuesday.

IVC plays again Friday afternoon, hosting El Camino at 1 p.m.
