Women's soccer team shuts out Norco for first win of 2022

The Irvine Valley women's soccer team captured its first win of the 2022 season, shutting out Norco, 3-0, on the road on a hot day in the Inland Empire Tuesday afternoon.

It was also the first win for new Laser head coach Tom Lancaster.

The Lasers took the lead midway through the first half, getting a goal from freshman midfielder Perla Miranda in the 29th minute.

Irvine Valley carried a 1-0 lead into the first half.

IVC put the game away in the second half with two more scores.

Freshman midfielder Hannah Holmes scored off an assist from sophomore defender Angie Visoso in the 55th minute to make it a 2-0 lead for IVC.

And freshman forward Fernanda Flores put the win away in the 62nd minutes off a pass from freshman midfielder Darlene Bautista.

The Lasers defense, led by freshman Vienna Vargas, was strong all day. Freshman keeper Andrea Gonzales only had to make one save in the victory.

Irvine Valley moved its record to 1-2 on the year. 

IVC is scheduled to play at Compton on Friday at 3 p.m.
