Irvine Valley's women's soccer team rallied with a goal in the second half and tied Fullerton, 1-1, in an Orange Empire Conference opening match on Tuesday at IVC.
The Lasers bounced back with the positive result against the Hornets, who are ranked tied for eighth this week in the CCCSIA State Poll, after dropping their first match of the season last Saturday at Las Positas.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 2-1-2 overall on the year, while Fullerton's record moved to 3-1-1 overall.
Fullerton scored first, getting a goal in the 30th minute.
Taylor Hobbs took a through ball from Brianna Remedios and then beat Irvine Valley freshman goalie Heather Miller with a high shot into the right corner of the net.
Hobbs nearly scored later in the half, but her shot was tipped over the top by Miller.
Fullerton had the good chances early in the second half with Hobbs having a one-one-one opportunity with the keeper saved by Miller at close range.
Irvine Valley picked up its pace after that.
The Lasers tied the game in the 69th minute after sophomore midfielder Heaven Hernandez was fouled in the box. Hernandez took the penalty kick and beat Fullerton goalie Kayla Ippolito to the lower left corner. It was her team-leading third goal of the season.
In the closing minutes, Irvine Valley freshman forward Cierra Savin got in behind the Fullerton defense, but her shot sailed wide of the goal.
The game ended shortly after.
Miller finished with five saves and Fullerton's Ippolito had three saves.
The Lasers play again on Friday at home, hosting Golden West at 3 p.m.
