Irvine Valley's women's soccer team scored its most goals in a match since the 2001 season in a 8-0 victory over San Diego City on Thursday afternoon at home.
It was the Lasers' first victory of the season. They tied with LA Pierce, 2-2, on Tuesday.
The last time IVC scored eight goals was on Sept. 14, 2001 when it defeated Golden West, 8-1, in an Orange Empire Conference contest.
What was even more impressive on Thursday was that seven different players scored the eight goals.
Sophomore midfielder Heaven Hernandez scored two goals and freshman midfielders Nancy Hernandez, Maria Salgado, Gladys Davila and Diana Lugo, freshman forward Cierra Savin and sophomore forward Jade Stewart each had a goal apiece.
"It thought Heaven really stepped up today for us," Irvine Valley coach Joe Supe said. "But I liked the energy of the whole team. They really combined well and were in synch. I enjoyed the quality of the game and our passing and aggressiveness."
Irvine Valley took 30 shots in the contest. The Lasers pressured San Diego City right from the start and had 11 shots, including nine on goal in the first 17 minutes of the contest.
IVC finally got on the board in the 27th minute when Hernandez hit a one-time shot into the upper right corner of the net off a pass from sophomore midfielder Cassandra Fuentes.
Fourteen minutes later, Irvine Valley made it a 2-0 game when Savin was in the right spot to rebound a ball in the back of the net after Hernandez hit the post with a shot.
In the 38th minute, Lugo scored on a tap in after sophomore forward Emily Rodriguez sent in a cross from the left side.
The Lasers got their final goal of the first half when Hernandez lofted a shot into the upper right corner of the net off a pass from Fuentes.
Irvine Valley went ahead, 5-0, in the 10th minute of the second half when Lugo found Salgado open for a score.
And it was 6-0 in the 62nd minute after Davila chipped a shot over San Diego City goalie Andrea Kumano's head from about 30 yards out.
In the 78th minute, Stewart stole the ball from a defender and then finished her shot near post on the left side to give Irvine Valley a 7-0 advantage.
Hernandez finished off the scoring in the game for IVC when she hit a high shot that beat Kumano off a cross from freshman midfielder Giselle Garcia.
San Diego City took just two shots in the game and IVC freshman goalie Bryana Esparza had to make just one save.
"I am very comfortable with this group," Supe said. "If they continue to work together and keep gelling, I think we can go far."
Irvine Valley doesn't play again until next Thursday when it faces the City College of San Francisco in the Las Positas Tournament. IVC will also play host Las Positas on Saturday, Sept. 8.
