Irvine Valley's women's soccer earned its first point in Orange Empire Conference play with a hard-fought 0-0 tie against Golden West on Friday at home.
IVC started conference play with a loss to Santiago Canyon this past Tuesday at home.
Irvine Valley's record moved to 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference. Golden West was playing its first conference contest after its game against Cypress on Tuesday was postponed due to wet field conditions.
Golden West's record went to 2-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in conference.
Both teams had their share of chances.
Irvine Valley sophomore defender Christina Anderson hit the crossbar in the 16th minute.
In the final minute of the first half for Golden West, Cynthia Trujillo got in behind the IVC defense and around the goalie. But Trujillo's shot was blocked and deflected away by Irvine Valley freshman defender Kirsten McMillian, who hustled back to get herself in front of the goal.
Irvine Valley's best opportunity in the second half came with about five minutes left when freshman forward Brenda Chopin was able to beat a defender and send a ball across the box that went just wide of the goal
A shot by Laser sophomore forward Crystal Lefebvre was then saved by the Rustler keeper a minute later.
Irvine Valley freshman goalie Rebecca Trejo made six saves in the shutout. Claudia Villegas made three saves in goal for Golden West.
Irvine Valley has a bye from conference action next Tuesday and hosts Santa Ana next Friday at 3 p.m.
