Irvine Valley men's tennis player Kiichi Ishida is making a run for the second straight year at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships in Ojai.

Ishida, a sophomore, won the state doubles title a year ago with teammate Arthur Bellegy.

He has moved on to the third day of singles and doubles action with two more wins on Friday.

Ishida, IVC's top singles player, defeated Zino Miratobi from Foothill College, 6-2, 6-0, in the round of 16 to advance into Saturday's quarterfinals.

He will meet Santino Serrlonga from Ventura at 9 a.m. at the Ojai Athletic Club.

Ishida is also guaranteed a doubles match in the afternoon at the OAC. He will team with sophomore Devon Kashishian in the doubles quarterfinals at the OAC at 3 p.m.

Ishida and Kashishian defeated Lucas Specht and Brett Yackovich of Bakersfield, 6-2, 7-5 in the round of 16 Friday.

The IVC duo will play Ravi Nelson and Spencer Hill of American River in the next round Saturday.

The season ended for IVC's two other doubles teams to make the second day. The teams of freshmen Sergio Jardas and Rudra Pathak and freshman Alyan Ashraf and Harold Santana each lost in straight sets in the round of 16 Friday.
