After playing a pair of scrimmages, the Irvine Valley men's tennis team officially started its 2023 season with a match against Santa Barbara City at home on Tuesday.
The Lasers were solid and earned a 7-2 win behind taking all three doubles contests and coming out on top in four of six singles matches.
In doubles action, Irvine Valley's team of freshman Aylan Ashraf and sophomore Devon Kashishian won, 8-4, at the top spot.
The No. 2 team of sophomores Kiichi Ishida and Harold Santana won, 8-1. The Lasers earned a default on the third court.
Then in singles, Irvine Valley received victories from Ashraf, freshman Sergio Jardas, freshman Rudra Pathak and sophomore Shane Iranpour.
Ashrat (No. 1 singles) and Pathak (No. 4 singles) each won in straight sets. Jardas came out on top in three sets on the third court and Iranpour picked up a win by default at the No. 6 spot.
Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday, starting Orange Empire Conference play with a home match against Saddleback at 2 p.m.
