Men's tennis player Lucas Lesoeur headed to Embry-Riddle

Irvine Valley sophomore all-state men's tennis player Lucas Lesoeur has signed with NCAA Division II Embry-Riddle in Daytona, Fla.

Lesoeur helped IVC have a season for the ages in the spring of 2017.

Irvine Valley went undefeated at 19-0, captured its third straight CCCAA State Championship and had players win singles and doubles state titles.

The Lasers earned the top state rankings across the board by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, being ranked No. 1 as a team, having four players ranked in the top 10 in the state in singles, including the No. 1 spot and seeing two teams ranked in the top five in the state in doubles, led by the No. 1 sophomore duo of state champions Javier Callejo and Lesoeur.

It was the third year in a row that an Irvine Valley team had won the state title in doubles. Callejo and Lesoeur were seeded No. 2 in doubles at the State Championship in Ojai. They beat No. 10 Thomas Kyle and Ingmar Remmerswaal of Cypress, 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals, then swept past top-seeded Nikita Katsnelson and Sasha Krasnov of Cerritos, 6-2, 6-4 in the final.

Lesoeur reached the semifinals of the singles state competition before falling to eventual winning and IVC teammate Callejo.

Lesoeur was also one of four IVC men's players named an ITA All-American for California Community Colleges. He was selected in both singles and doubles.

And Lesoeur ended up being coming in at sixth in the state in singles and No. 1 in doubles with Callejo in the final state rankings.

On the season, he had a record of 11-2 in singles in dual match play in the No. 2 position. And he went 13-4 in doubles in dual match play at the No. 1 position.

Lesoeur, who played his freshman year at Cal Poly before coming to IVC this past season, is headed to an Embry-Riddle team that had a record of 9-4 this past season and won its last four matches of the year.
