Men's tennis player Jack Fryer signs with Midland University

Irvine Valley sophomore men's tennis player Jack Fryer has signed with Midland University in Nebraska.

The NAIA private college is located in Fremont, Neb., which is about 25 miles northwest of Omaha.

Fryer has been a part of quite a historical run with the Irvine Valley program.

He has been a part of two Orange Empire Conference titles and a CCCAA state championship.

The team has been ranked No. 1 in the state again this entire season and is one match away from making its fourth straight state championship appearance.

IVC has won 33 straight matches dating back to last season.

Fryer has competed in eight singles matches for IVC so far this year and has gone 6-2 in the fourth, fifth and sixth positions.

He is 5-1 in conference play for the Lasers. He has won three of those conference matches in straight sets.

In doubles play, he has played in five matches and has gone 4-1. The only loss was to four-year Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Fryer has all four of his wins with partner John Knight.

In his freshman year in 2016, Fryer was 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles for Irvine Valley.

Midland finished with a record of 8-10 overall this year.

Fryer came to Irvine Valley from the Westlands School in England.

Irvine Valley (17-0) next competes in the SoCal Regional Championship Final against conference rival and No. 3 seed Cypress on Saturday at 2 p.m. at IVC.
