Irvine Valley's men's tennis team started defense of its CCCAA State Title with an easy 5-0 win over San Diego City on Tuesday at home in a SoCal Regional Championship Quarterfinal match.
The contest took a little more than 90 minutes to complete.Top-seeded Irvine Valley won all three doubles matches and then earned two quick singles victories to earn the overall win over the eighth-seeded Knights.
Irvine Valley stayed unbeaten on the year at 16-0 and moved on to the semifinal round next Tuesday. The Lasers will host Orange Empire Conference rival Saddleback at 1 p.m.
On the second doubles court, IVC's team of freshmen Wyatt DeMulling and Chris Politiek had no trouble in winning, 8-0.
And then IVC's No. 1 doubles team of sophomores Lucas Lesoeur and Javier Callejo and No. 3 team of freshman Leszek Mirecki and sophomore Gavin Lynch each won, 8-2, to give the Lasers control.
Irvine Valley was up in each of the singles matches, but picked up the overall win after sophomore Luis Castello won, 6-0, 6-0, on court six and Mirecki came out on top, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 5 spot.
Irvine Valley has now won 32 matches in a row dating back to last season.
