Men's soccer team scores five more goals, shuts out Lancers

The goals kept coming for the Irvine Valley men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon at home.

After scoring eight times in a 8-1 Orange Empire Conference victory over Cypress last week, the Lasers put five on the board in a 5-0 nonconference win over Pasadena City.

Freshman midfielders Julian Anaya and Gibae Kim each scored two goals and sophomore forward Grant Joyce added a goal for the Lasers in Wednesday's triumph.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 6-9-3 overall. Pasadena City had its record slip to 6-8-2 overall.

IVC scored four of those goals in the first half to take complete control.

Kim took a pass from Anaya in the middle. He gathered and then chipped a shot into the upper right corner of the net to give IVC a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.

It was a 2-0 lead seven minutes later for Irvine Valley. Anaya drilled a shot into the upper right corner. The play was set up by sophomore midfielder Daniel Segal, who showed nice patience in delivering a perfect pass to Anaya.

Irvine Valley made it a 3-0 game in the 21st minute. Joyce smashed a ball into the net off a cross from Anaya.

And the Lasers took a 4-0 lead into the half when Kim took the ball up the left side and scored off an assist from freshman midfielder Jose Moreno.

Irvine Valley scored its fifth and final goal seven minutes into the second half when Anaya scored off a set-up from Joyce.

Anaya nearly scored another, but his volley banged off the side of the post.

In all, Irvine Valley out-shot Pasadena City, 17,6, in the contest.

IVC freshman keeper Nathan King played the first 60 minutes and had to make just two saves.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting Norco in a conference match at 3 p.m.
