The Irvine Valley men's soccer team came away with a frustrating 2-2 tie at Norco in an Orange Empire Conference match on Tuesday.

The Lasers scored first and had a bunch of other chances to add to their lead.

But IVC also trailed, 2-1, late and had to score in the final minutes just to earn the draw.

Irvine Valley got on the board first with a goal by sophomore forward Grant Joyce off an assist from sophomore midfielder Julian Anaya.

Norco then responded with a goal in the 40th minute from Leo Orellana and then scored early in the second half, getting a goal by Ricky Vasquez to take a 2-1 advantage.

The Lasers had to ultimately score in the 89th minute to tie the game. Sophomore defender Michael Davis picked up the goal off an assist from Joyce.

Irvine Valley coach Martin McGrogan said IVC hit the post with shots twice in the game and missed a couple of other close-range opportunities.

IVC freshman goalie Nathan King ended up making four saves.

Irvine Valley's record went to 4-5-2 overall and 2-2-2 in conference, while Norco moved to 4-3-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference.

The Lasers, who are in fifth place in the eight-team conferences standings, have a bye on Friday and play again next Tuesday at home against Santiago Canyon at 3 p.m.

It is the first of three straight home matches for IVC.
