Men's basketball team can't get untracked in loss at Fullerton

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team ran into a stingy Fullerton squad on Wednesday night in an Orange Empire Conference game at Fullerton.

The Lasers were held to their lowest point total of the season in a 62-37 defeat.

The loss was IVC's fourth in a row and dropped their record to 13-12 overall and 2-6 in conference.

Fullerton, ranked No. 12 in the state and seventh in Southern California in this week's coaches poll, improved to 17-6 overall and 9-2 in conference.

Irvine Valley shot just 21.8 percent (12 of 55) as a team from the field in the game. And IVC made only 3 of 14 three-point attempts.

The Lasers were also out-rebounded, 47-28, in the contest.

Freshman forward Jake Linsky led the Lasers with 11 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Daniel Hernandez had eight points and sophomore forward Zane Paddon had six points off the bench.

Fullerton, which shot 44.9 percent (22 of 49) as a team led, 27-18, at the half and then put the game away in the second half, out-scoring IVC, 35-19.

The Hornets got 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists from Jason Richardson, 13 points and six assists from Khalil Stevenson and 11 points and 11 rebounds from Ronne Readus in the victory.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting Copper Mountain in a conference game at 7 p.m.
