The Irvine Valley women's beach volleyball team had three pairs qualify for next week's California Community College Athletic Association State Championship.
That event will be held at Irvine Valley with the team competition starting Thursday. The two-pairs championship will take place Friday and Saturday.
The three Laser pairs that qualified over the weekend at El Camino College were the freshmen duo of Jolie Rasmussen and Barret Nolan, the freshman team of Jaclyn Sanchez and Emily Guenter and the freshman pair of Gabi Brown and Sevilla Leuteneker.
All three teams qualified by winning a first-round match on Friday.
But they kept grinding most of the rest of the day and then into Saturday to try and earn the best seeds possible for the state championships.
Rasmussen and Nolan ended up finishing second after forfeiting the final match.
Sanchez and Guenter came in sixth. Brown and Leuteneker took the 16th and final spot from Southern California.
Irvine Valley, which claimed its pool at the So. Cal. Team Regional last Tuesday at IVC, will also be participating in the Team State Championship on Thursday. That event begins early and features the top squads from around the state. The state final match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
