The Irvine Valley women's beach volleyball team, back on its sand courts for the first time in almost two years, officially opened its season at home on Friday with 5-0 wins over both MiraCosta and El Camino.
It was a good day all around for the Lasers as they swept MiraCosta in all five matches with straight-set wins.
Irvine Valley won four of five matches in straight sets against El Camino.
Irvine Valley's No. 1 team of freshmen Jolie Rasmussen and Tasha Mae stood out.
The duo won aginst Elle Harrity and Cameron Martinez of MiraCosta, 21-12, 21-14, and then defeated the duo of Ginia Goods and Lauren McCarthy of El Camino, 21-5, 21-15.
The three-set match in Irvine Valley's contest against El Camino - the last contest on the IVC courts of the day - went to the Laser No. 4 team of freshmen Sevilla Leuteneker and Natalee Gray, 15-21, 21-17, 15-13, to wrap up an undefeated day.
The Lasers, who look to be one of the favorites in the state this year, play again next Thursday, hosting Santa Ana in an Orange Empire Conference match at 11 a.m.
