Women's golf star Leleaga Meredith signs with Grand Canyon

Former star Irvine Valley women's golf player and state champion Leleaga Meredith has signed with Division 1 Grand Canyon University.

She will play for coach Lauren Giesecke.

Meredith finished up two exceptional years at Irvine Valley in 2015.

The native of New Zealand placed third individually at the CCAA State Championships at the Tracy Golf Club in 2013 with a two day score of 159.

Meredith was also named first team all-state as well as first team all-Southern California.

In her final season at IVC under coach Ben Burnett, Meredith was crowned as the 2014 CCAA State Champion with a two day total of 147.

She shot 75 on the first day and ended on the second day with an even par round of 72. On the second day of action, she used three birdies, 12 pars and three bogeys to score the even par in dominating her fellow competitors for the medalist honors.

Meredith was also named first team all-state as well as first team all-Southern California.

"Meredith has tremendous natural talent and can compress the ball with a powerful golf swing," Giesecke said. "She can move the ball a long distance off the tee, which gives her an edge on the golf course. She is a proven winner and is an example of a perfect teammate. I am excited that she is joining our program."

Prior to Irvine Valley, Meredith attended Hamilton Fraser High in New Zealand where she represented Samoa at the South Pacific Games. She also was on the U18 and U21 teams that represented Waikato.
