Women's golf team takes second in first conference match

Irvine Valley's women's golf team finished second at the first Orange Empire Conference match of the season on Wednesday at Soboba Springs Golf Course.

The Lasers finished with a team score of 351 to edge Palomar (354) and Mt. SAC (358) for second place. College of the Desert won the event with a score of 331.

Irvine Valley picked up seven wins on the day and suffered just one loss.

The rest of the teams were Orange Coast (368), Mt. San Jacinto (375), Saddleback (379), Fullerton (456) and Cuyumaca (no score).

Irvine Valley sophomore Hyerin Kim took second as an individual in the match.

She finished with 11 pars and one birdie on her way to a score of 78. She was just one shot off of the lead.

Sophomore Rebecca Peng finished at 81 with seven pars and one birdie for IVC. Sophomore Stuti Mandal came in at 92 and sophomore Liliana Gutierrez finished at 100 to round out IVC's scoring players.

Freshman Lara Kyaw shot 101 and freshman Alexis McLachlan carded 102 for Irvine Valley.

Irvine Valley will compete at the Desert Classic Invitational at Indian Canyons this Friday and Saturday.
