Women's golfer Hyerin Kim advances to state championship

Irvine Valley sophomore women's golfer Hyerin Kim is headed to the California Community College Athletic Association State Championship.

Kim finished with a two-day score of 160 at the Southern California Regionals at the Alisal River Course.

The tournament took place Sunday and Monday in Solvang.

Kim shot 82 on Sunday and finished up the event with a 78 on Monday.

She ended up seventh overall.

Irvine Valley ended seventh as a team in the event with a score of 695.

Santa Barbara City won the regional with a score of 641. Citrus was second at 648 and Canyons finished third at 667.

Irvine Valley sophomore Rebecca Peng just missed out on being one of the lowest 12 individuals to move on.

She ended the two-day tournament with a score of 169 (83 and 86). Sophomore Stuti Mandal came in a 184 (95 and 89) for the Lasers, sophomore Liliana Gutierrez was at 191 (105 and 86) and freshman Alexis McLachlan finished at 201 (96 and 105).

Kim will play in the State Championships Nov. 15-16 at Morro Bay.
