Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team played its first match on the road this season and defeated Cypress, 4-1, Friday morning at the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach.
The Lasers won matches on the first, second, fourth and fifth courts.
The No. 4 pair of freshman Tessa Marocco and freshman Emily Hon came through big time with a three-set victory to help secure the overall win.
Marocco and Hon dropped the first set to Cypress' Ashlyn Riddle and Kailee DeWilt, 21-4, but responded by taking the next two sets, 21-18, 15-10.
Sophomores Barett Nolan and Sydney Dews won, 21-12, 21-18 on the first court and freshman Angie Griego and sophomore Gabi Brown earned a 21-12, 22-20 victory on court two.
Irvine Valley also won with its fifth pair. Sophomore Kendall Fraser and freshman Alessandra Nitoglia coming out on top, 21-16, 21-19.
The Lasers play again next Saturday, hosting the University of Nebraska at 8 a.m. and Hope International at 10 a.m. Nebraska and Hope International will compete at 9 a.m.
