Men's and women's tennis players ready for state tournament

The California Community College Athletic Association  Men's and Women's State Tennis Championships get started on Thursday at sites in Ventura, Oxnard and Ojai.

Several Irvine Valley players are seeded high in the singles and doubles competitions.

IVC freshman Halla Alajeely is one of two No. 1 seeds in the women's singles draw. The other No. 1 seed is Eva Spindler of American River.

Alajeely has a bye in the opening round and then plays the winner of American River's Sabryana Baudreau and Palomar's Eren Sugimoto on Thursday.

Laser sophomore Fiorella Dreux is seeded No. 24 in singles and Alajeely and Dreux are a No. 2 seed in doubles play.

Alajeely and Drew received a bye in the first round and will play their first match of the tournament in the round of 32 on Friday.

On the men's side, freshman Michael Bott is a No. 6 seed in singles for Irvine Valley.

Freshman Jacob Holiday is seeded 23rd, freshman Thallys Santos is a No. 30 seed and the top IVC doubles team of Bott and Santos is seeded sixth.

The tournament runs through Sunday with the championship matches at Libbey Park in Ojai on Sunday.
