Irvine Valley's women's tennis team started off conference the right way by defeating Cypress, 7-2, at home on Thursday.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 2-3 overall.
The Lasers won four of six matches in singles and swept the three doubles contests.
All four singles victories were in straight sets.
Freshman Kristina Ebon defeated Cypress Liz Pal, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.
Freshman Marissa Woolsley won, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 singles, freshman Parmida Navabsafavi won, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot and sophomore Anna Pham won, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
At No. 1 singles, IVC freshman Renee Walton lost a tough three-set match 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 to Cypress Jessica Cornea.
In doubles, Irvine Valley had an easy time at the second and third positions.
The teams of freshmen Christine Yamasaki and Ruth Chou and freshman Julia Gotico and Pham each won, 8-0.
At No. 1 doubles, Walton and Ebon defeated Cypress' Cornea and Melissa Gahungu, 8-6.
Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday at Fullerton.
