Women's soccer team wins big once again, scores eight goals

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team had another very impressive showing Friday afternoon at home.

The Lasers improved their record to 2-0 on the season with a second, lopsided victory to start the year. 

They defeated Grossmont, 8-1, and have now outscored their two opponents, 17-1.

IVC started the season with a 9-0 win at Cuyamaca the previous week.

Irvine Valley scored the first six goals of the contest on Friday and ended up having three different players score two goals each on the day.

Sophomore forward Kuuipo Laumatia was it it again for IVC.

She finished with two goals to follow up on her two-goal, two-assist performance in the first match at Cuyamaca.

Laumatia opened the scoring in the eighth minute off of a nice through ball by freshman Addyson Baumunk.

Freshman forward Bella Vaglienty and sophomore forward Nikki MacDonald each also had two goals for the Lasers.

Vaglienty scored back-to-back goals in the 21st and 33rd minutes to put Irvine Valley ahead, 5-0.

IVC led, 5-0, at the half.

A penalty kick goal (to the lower right corner) by Laumatia gave Irvine Valley a 6-0 lead five minutes into the second half.

Grossmont scored its lone goal in the 59th minute.

But the Lasers closed out the scoring with two more goals in the final 15 minutes, including a nice strike by freshman midfielder Jenna Hannum in the 87th minute.

Megan Beal added a goal (off of a corner kick in the first half) and one assist, freshman forward Maggie Contreras contributed two assists and freshman defender Ashley Reina also had an assist in the win for Irvine Valley.

Freshmen Alexa Peterson and Jules Degroen each played a half in goal and both made one save.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday at Moorpark at 1:30 p.m.
