It started with a Sydnee Salamoff save on a penalty kick for the Irvine Valley women's soccer team on Friday's Orange Empire Conference match against Fullerton at home.
And it ended with a 3-0 win for the Lasers, which was the squad's second shutout in a row to start conference play.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 3-6-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.
Salamoff, a freshman keeper, saved a penalty kick in the fourth minute and immediately made a long kick down field that freshman midfielder Andrea Goana ran on to and scored to give Irvine Valley a 1-0 lead.
The Lasers made it a 2-0 advantage in the 12th minute when sophomore midfielder Merlin Serpas sent a ball to freshman forward Natalie Guzman. And she finished with a strong shot.
IVC had more chances to score, but put the game away early in the second half when freshman defender Cyann Whitley got behind the defense on a ball put through by sophomore midfielder Vienna Vargas and sent the ball into the back of the net.
Salamoff finished with three saves in the clean sheet.
Irvine Valley out-shot Fullerton, 10-5, on the afternoon. The Lasers play again next Tuesday, hosting Orange Coast at 3 p.m.
