  • Women's basketball splits final games of 2023 in Ventura
    December 30, 2024
    Irvine Valley travels to the VC-Optimist Club Holiday Classic at Ventura and splits games, beating Ventura, 58-52, on Friday and then falling to Glendale, 47-31, on Saturday. IVC plays again on Jan. 5 at Palo Verde at 5:30 p.m.
  • Basketball player Makena Tomlinson named to all-state team

    Irvine Valley sophomore standout Makena Tomlinson was named second team all-state by the women's basketball association recently. Tomlinson averaged 12.1 points and 10.1 rebounds a game and shot 51.6 percent from the field.

    Irvine Valley goes on the road in the second to the last game of the regular season and defeats rival Saddleback, 74-54. It moves the No. 12 in the state Lasers' record to 20-7 overall and 11-2 in the OEC. IVC plays at Riverside Friday.

    Irvine Valley has its Sophomore Night Friday, celebrating five sophs and defeats Cypress, 65-49, in an Orange Empire Conference game. IVC, ranked No. 12 in the state, improves its record to 19-7 overall and 10-2 in conference.

    After a little bit of research, it was confirmed that freshman women's basketball player Haruka Mikuma's 17 assists in Irvine Valley 95-51 win over Riverside last week was a school record that had held since the 1998-99 season.

    Irvine Valley gets 14 points from Haruka Mikuma, 10 points from Moka Saiki and six points and 13 rebounds by Makena Tomlinson, but the Lasers fall for the second time this year to Orange Coast. IVC hosts Santa Ana next.
  • Big third quarter propels women's basketball team to 15th win

    Irvine Valley led Riverside by 18 points at halftime, but a 33-5 scoring outburst in the third quarter completely put the game away in a 95-51 Orange Empire Conference win over Riverside Wednesday night. IVC is at OCC Friday.

    Irvine Valley travels to Moorpark College for one of the toughest tournaments in the state, the Tommy Arellano Challenge and wins one of three games, defeating Chabot on Saturday, 55-51, to improve its record to 7-4 overall.
