After being named Orange Empire Conference First-Team All-Conference honoree in 2018-19, Irvine Valley sophomore women's basketball player Anai Washington has been chosen as the OEC Most Valuable Player this year following an incredible season.

Washington and three other IVC players were honored as being part of all-conference teams and coach Julie Hanks was named the OEC coach of the year for the second season in a row.

Washington was the most efficient shooter in the conference by posting a conference-pacing 55.8 shooting percentage.

The guard was third in the conference in scoring with a 17.9 points-per-game mark. Washington landed in double-digit scoring in each conference contest highlighted by dropping a season-high 32 points in a victory over Saddleback. She closed out the season by dropping 20 or more points in her final three games.

And Washington was even better during conference action where Irvine Valley went 12-0 and wrapped up its third OEC title in a row.

She averaged 19.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.8 steals a game in conference.

Hanks helped lead IVC to a 24-2 record during the regular season. The Lasers were ranked as high as No. 4 in the state and earned the sixth seed in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regional Playoffs. IVC hosts MiraCosta on Friday at 7 p.m.

IVC sophomore center Zoe Stachowski was chosen all-conference for the second straight season. She was picked to the first team after averaging 16.9 points and 12.3 rebounds overall and 17.5 points and 12.6 rebounds in conference.

Laser freshman point guard Morgan Higgins was also chosen to the first team. She averaged 12.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.2 steals per game and led IVC with 51 three-pointers made. In conference, Higgins averaged 14.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.8 steals a game.

And IVC freshman guard Jessica Suruor was chosen to the second team. She averaged 6.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals a game for IVC overall and 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in conference play. Suruor had one of her best games of the season as IVC wrapped up the conference title with a 94-81 win over Cypress. She nailed four three-pointers and dropped 17 points.
