Irvine Valley's women's basketball team opens up Orange Empire Conference play on Wednesday, taking on Golden West at 5 p.m.
IVC has won back-to-back conference titles.
The Lasers are off to a solid start to the 2019-20 season.
Irvine Valley has a record of 12-2 after splitting games at the Ventura Tournament Dec. 28-29.
IVC, ranked No. 9 in the state, lost to No. 4 and host Ventura, 62-51, to start the tournament.
Sophomore post player Zoe Stachowski finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, sophomore guard Anai Washington had 10 points and seven rebounds and freshman guard Samantha Uehara added eight points for the Lasers.
IVC held Ventura to just 29.0 percent shooting in the game, but the Lasers only shot 33.3 percent (21 of 63). Ventura made four more three-pointers and also out-rebounded IVC, 56-38.
But the Lasers bounced back the next night with a 93-80 victory over No. 12 LA Trade Tech.
All five Laser starters scored in double figures.
Washington finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, Stachowski added 20 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks, freshman guard Morgan Higgins had 17 points, six assists and five steals, Uehara chipped in 12 points and freshman guard Jessica Suruor had 10 points and four rebounds.
On the year, Irvine Valley is paced by Washington, who is averaging 16.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
Stachowski averages 16.0 points and 11.9 rebounds. Freshman forward Kaitlyn Luu is averaging 11.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 steals and Higgins averages 10.0 points, 4.9 assists and 2.8 steals for IVC.
Golden West, which is in its first year back as a program after it was dropped by the school 15 years ago, has a record of 3-9 so far.
The Rustlers split games in the LA Harbor Crossover over the break.
Golden West lost to LA Harbor, 62-51, and defeated Compton, 53-50, on Dec. 27-28.
On the season, Golden West has wins over LA Harbor (55-49), Copper Mountain (70-54) and Compton on the year. So far on the season, Abigail Guerrero leads the team, averaging 12.0 points per game.
Kimberly Mancillas averages 7.7 points and Roxie Aquino is averaging 6.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
