Men's soccer team answers with late goal to tie Orange Coast

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team battled back from a goal down twice in the second half to earn a 2-2 tie with Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference match on Friday at home.

Irvine Valley got a goal in the 84th minute from sophomore defender Juan Sebastian Olivares to complete the scoring in the contest.

It was the second goal of the match for Olivares.

The tie brought Irvine Valley's record to 3-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. Orange Coast's recorded moved to 2-5-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference.

All of the goals took place in the second half. Orange Coast got on the board first in the 67th minute with a goal by Nicholas Cardenas from Jonathan Peixtoto.

On a counter, the ball was sent through in the right side to Cardenas, who slid a shot past IVC freshman keeper Braden Peters.

Irvine Valley tied the match in the 71st minute when Olivares hammered a shot from 35 yards out that found the back of the net.

But Orange Coast went back on top, 2-1, in the 80th minute. Cardenas scored again - this time off a pass from Dominic Bair.

But Irvine Valley found a way to tie the score four minutes later. Freshman forward Eder Olivas sent a ball into the box on a free kick that Olivares was able to back heel past Orange Coast keeper Sina Shahnazari.

Peters finished with four saves for Irvine Valley, while Shahnazari had three saves for the Pirates.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday in a conference match at Santa Ana at 3 p.m.
