Basketball players Carter and Womack earn all-OEC honors

Irvine Valley sophomore men's basketball players Austin Carter and Aashad Womack have each received recognition as part of all-Orange Empire Conference teams.

Carter, a 6-5 forward, was named to the second team and Womack, a 6-6 forward, was selected as honorable mention.

Carter averaged 10.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Lasers during the regular season. He ranked second on the team in scoring and first in rebounds.

Womack averaged 8.8 points and 7.0 rebounds a game.

The two players helped Irvine Valley finish the regular season with a record of 16-12 overall and 6-10 in conference play.

Irvine Valley made the postseason and will compete in the opening round of the California Community College Athletic Association So. Cal. Playoffs Wednesday night at Chaffey at 7 p.m.

IVC received the No. 20 seed.

Santiago Canyon's Antoine Jenkins was named the conference Most Valuable Player after averaging 24.3 points per game (second in the state).  Jenkins played an integral role in helping the Hawks to a 26-2 regular-season record as the team prepares for its third consecutive playoff run.

Jenkins was also named as the Offensive Player of the Year, while the Defensive Player of the Year award went to Fullerton sophomore Harrison Bonner. The Hornets averaged 6.7 steals, 4.4 blocks per game, while holding teams to a 59-point scoring average.

Coaches Phil Matthews (Riverside City) and Todd Dixon (Santiago Canyon) shared Coach of the Year honors.
