Allie Cook commits to play sand volleyball at Arizona

Sophomore Allie Cook recently became Irvine Valley's first ever women's sand volleyball player to commit to a four-year school.

She will play at the University of Arizona next spring.

Arizona will be competing in its inaugural sand season in 2014.

Cook, a 5-8 outside hitter, spent the last two years playing indoor and sand volleyball at Irvine Valley.

As a freshman, Cook was named first-team all-Orange Empire Conference and as a sophomore earned all-region honors indoors.

Cook ranked third in the state with 334 kills (4.34 per set), while hitting an efficient .300 during the indoor season.

She finished third in school history for career hitting percentage, kills and digs. Cook was also a team captain and the team's MVP following her sophomore season.

Cook played as part of the top team for the Irvine Valley sand volleyball team along with Annie MItchem. Cook helped Irvine Valley win a state title in the sport this past year.

Cook was a three-year letterwinner and a three-time all-league selection at Edison High before reaching IVC.

She has been a multiple winner of the Volleyball Festival and has earned a "AAA" beach volleyball rating.

"Allie is a very experienced and savvy sand player, having already earned the highest rating of "AAA" with the California Beach Volleyball Association," Arizona coach Steve Walker said. "Her junior college team this 2013 spring season has had dual meets against a good number of teams that will be on our schedule in coming years; and she has shown very well for herself in those matches. She will make an immediate impact and we will certainly count on her to provide our new team with some direction when we kick-off our 1st season next spring."
