Irvine Valley's women's soccer team bounced back from a tough loss on Tuesday at Cypress with a solid effort against Golden West.

But it still wasn't enough to get a positive result for the Lasers.

IVC fell to Golden West, 1-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match at home. It was the second 1-0 loss by the Lasers to the Rustlers this season.

Irvine Valley Coach Joe Supe was proud of the way his team bounced back after suffering a 6-1 defeat to Cypress Tuesday.

But the Lasers hit the post twice in the first half and had a couple of other good chances turned away by Golden West goalie Ashlee Garcia in the loss.

IVC freshman defender Amanda Kutcher hit the post twice with shots. The first one came in the 11th minute on a long free kick. It was deflected by Garcia and then bounced off the post and away.

Golden West got on the board in the 26th minute off a corner kick. Sam Andrade sent the corner kick into the box and Kennedy Chavez was there to head the ball in for a 1-0 advantage.

Eight minutes later, Kutcher hit the post again with another low shot for the Lasers.

Sophomore midfielder Marissa Banos hit a free kick that just sailed over the goal early in the second half.

One of IVC's best chances came in the 70th minute when Banos hit a free kick into the box that Kutcher got to. She hit a hard shot deep in the box, but Garcia was able to make a lunging save.

Golden West nearly added to its lead late in the contest, but Chavez sent a shot on a one-on-one opportunity with IVC freshman keeper Katelyn Faber over the goal. Chavez got in behind the IVC defense again a few minutes later, but hit a shot wide.

And then in the 88th minute, Ana Sofia Rodriguez fired a shot that Faber made a diving save on.

Faber ended up making five saves for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 4-9-3 overall and 1-6-1 in conference action. Golden West moved to 6-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in conference.

The Lasers play again next Tuesday at Fullerton at 3 p.m. Fullerton sits in second place in the conference standings.
