Women's soccer team battles, but falls at No. 6 Santiago Canyon

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team battled, but fell to Santiago Canyon, 2-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match on the road Friday.

The Lasers' record slipped to 3-7-2 overall and 0-4-0 in conference play.

Santiago Canyon, which is the defending state champion and ranked sixth in the state this year, improved to 7-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference. The Hawks are tied with Fullerton for second in conference action.

Ceci Roghair scored in the 30th minute for Santiago Canyon. Ashley Dart hit a shot that struck off the crossbar and Roghair was there to knock the ball in.

Santiago Canyon led, 1-0, at the half.

Five minutes after halftime, the Hawks scored again.

Gigi Soto linked with Hannah Roskelly who hit a hard, low left-footed drive from the top of the box. Brianna Diaz stepped in to lift the ball over the keeper for the score.

Irvine Valley sophomore goalie Heather Miller had seven saves in goal.

Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday at home in a conference match against Santa Ana at 3 p.m.
