Women's basketball team rallies to beat Fullerton on the road

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team rallied after being down for three quarters to defeat Fullerton, 74-64, in an Orange Empire Conference game Friday night on the road.

Irvine Valley, which was ranked No. 16 in the state, had its record improve to 16-6 overall and 4-2 in conference. The Lasers moved a half game behind Orange Coast and Cypress for first place in the OEC.

Fullerton led, 29-27, at the half and took their largest advantage at 43-31 with 3:50 left in the third quarter.

But the Lasers got hot in the fourth quarter hitting six three-pointers to take the lead for good.

Freshman guard Trasara Alexander went 3 of 3 from deep and freshman wing Christa Ziska also made all three of her three pointers in the fourth period.

Alexander scored an impressive 12 points in the fourth quarter as IVC out-scored Fullerton, 32-18, in the final quarter.

Irvine Valley led by as many as 12 points with a minute left in regulartion.

Alexander paced IVC with 33 points and 15 rebounds. She made six three-pointers in the contest.

Ziska and sophomore guard Kennedy Pucci each added nine points. Pucci also contributed five rebounds and four assists. And freshman guard Emily Freeman chipped in eight points and four assists for the Lasers.

Fullerton (10-11, 1-4) was led by Tia Jaquias with 21 points and four rebounds.

Irvine Valley has a bye from conference action next Wednesday and plays again at Orange Coast next Friday at 5 p.m.
