Women's badminton team starts season strong

Irvine Valley's women's badminton team started the 2014 season with impressive results at the Grossmont Tournament on Friday.

IVC had a player win the singles tournament, another player make the semifinals and a doubles team reach the final.

Freshman Jurate Foes captured the singles tournament.

She won five matches in all, including beating San Diego City's Gina Niph in the final.

Irvine Valley's Karen Wang won three matches before losing in a semifinal contest.

In doubles, Foes and Wang won three contests to reach the final.

IVC coach Martin McGrogan said that his squad should be one of the best in the state this season.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday, traveling to San Diego Mesa for a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference dual match.
