The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team gets another shot at Orange Coast.
The Lasers swept Fullerton for the second time this season in an Orange Empire Conference Tournament semifinal match to move on to the championship.
In that championship, IVC will play at host and top-ranked OCC next Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
Orange Coast defeated Irvine Valley both times the teams played this season and both times in hard-fought, four-set matches.
IVC advanced with a solid 25-22, 25-7, 25-18 win over Fullerton.
The Lasers hit .385 as a team on the night, led by freshman outside hitter Colin Chillingworth with 14 kills and five digs. He also hit .522.
Freshman opposite Garret Schnitker added nine kills, freshman middle/opposite Julio Gutierrez added five kills and two blocks and hit .625 for the Lasers.
Freshman setter Andrew Perez ended with 33 assists and freshman libero Adam Schulte had 10 digs on the night.
IVC held a big lead in the first set at 21-13 after a kill by Schnitker, but allowed Fullerton back into it.
The Hornets rallied to within 23-21 before the Lasers closed out the set.
Fullerton served out to make it 24-21 and then two points later Chillingworth came through with a kill to give IVC the 1-0 advantage.
And then it was all Lasers the rest of the way. They won 14 of the first 15 points in the second set and led, 22-6, after a kill by freshman middle blocker Trevor Weinert.
Irvine Valley won the set when Fullerton hit out.
The third set was close, but Irvine Valley led throughout.
IVC took a 15-12 advantage on a kill by Schnitker and then went ahead, 18-13.
A block by Perez and Gutierrez put Irvine Valley in front, 20-16.
And then a kill by Gutieirrez made it a 22-17 IVC lead.
Fullerton served in the net to give Irvine Valley a match point at 24-18 and a four-touch call on the Hornets ended the night.
