Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team continued to dominate the top of the rankings in the latest California Community College Men's Volleyball Coaches Association State Poll.
The top three teams stayed the same for the fourth straight week with Irvine Valley remaining No. 1. Orange Coast came in at No. 2 and Santa Monica being picked third in the voting.
And Irvine Valley was No. 1 in the poll for the fifth week in a row.
Irvine Valley swept Miramar at home last Wednesday and then San Diego Mesa on the road last Friday. IVC hit .455 as a team in the win at Mesa with freshman middle blocker Matt August finishing with 11 kills and hitting .714.
The Lasers play just one match this week, visiting Santa Barbara City on Friday at 6 p.m.
Orange Coast swept Palomar at home last Wednesday and won in three at Grossmont last Friday. OCC got 13 kills from Justin Kam and 10 kills from Matt Ujkic in the win at Grossmont.
And Santa Monica swept Pierce at home last Wednesday and then swept at Antelope Valley on Friday. In the win over Pierce, Andrew Dalmada had nine kills and Max Ball had eight kills for Santa Monica.
In all, Irvine Valley has won four matches in a row, Orange Coast has won seven straight (the last six in a row being three-set sweeps), Santa Monica has won its last five matches, Golden West has won five in a row and Long Beach City has won four straight contests.
This is the final week of nonconference play for most schools. Some of the big match-ups of the week include No. 2 Orange Coast at No. 6 Pierce on Friday, No. 5 Long Beach City at No. 8 Fullerton on Wednesday and No. 4 Golden West at Long Beach City on Friday.
