Women's volleyball team moves up six spots in state rankings

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team split matches last week in Orange Empire Conference play, but the Lasers moved up six spots in this week's state poll.

The Lasers, who were ranked No. 22 last week, climbed to No. 16 this week after taking No. 8 Cypress to five sets last Friday in a key Orange Empire Conference match.

Irvine Valley has a record of 4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference. Cypress improved its record to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in conference with a 25-18, 25-23, 18-25, 16-25, 15-12 win over the Lasers.

Irvine Valley swept Santiago Canyon on the road in its other conference match last week.

Grossmont is the top-ranked team again this week.

The rest of the top 10 includes Pierce, Santa Barbara City, Cabrillo, Fresno City, MiraCosta, Sacramento City, Cypress, El Camino and Canyons.

No. 11 is American River, No. 12 is Gavilan, No. 13 is San Francisco City, No. 14 is Long Beach City and No. 15 is Sierra.

Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday, traveling to Riverside for a 6 p.m. conference match.

The Lasers are home again on Friday, hosting Saddleback at 6 p.m.
