Women's soccer team comes up short against Orange Coast

The Irvine Valley women's soccer team played right with Orange Coast in a key Orange Empire Conference at home on Tuesday.

The Lasers had three of the first four shots in the game, but Orange Coast scored in the 31st minute and added two goals in the second half to go on to a 3-0 win.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 3-7-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference, while Orange Coast improved to 7-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the OEC.

All three goals for the Pirates were off set pieces (two off of corner kicks and one via a free kick).

Clarissa Sullivan scored the first goal and Sydnee Powell added two goals in the second half for OCC.

IVC freshman keeper Sydnee Salamoff had four saves in goal, including two diving stops. And sophomore midfielder Merlin Serpas, who was named IVC's athlete of the week this week, finished with four shots.

Irvine Valley, which was on a two-match win streak, will try and regroup against a tough opponent Friday on the road. IVC plays at Santiago Canyon at 3 p.m.
