Irvine Valley's women's soccer team fought hard all game long, but came up on the short end with a 4-2 loss to a tough MiraCosta squad at home Friday afternoon.
The defeat dropped Irvine Valley's record to 0-4-0 overall. MiraCosta improved its record to 4-1-0 overall.
The Lasers play again on Tuesday, traveling to East Long Angeles for a 6 p.m. contest.
MiraCosta took a 2-0 lead through the first 30 minutes of the match.
Jazmyne Arispe scored the first two goals for the Spartans. She finished in the 15th minute and then scored again in the 30th minute to give MiraCosta the advantage.
But the Lasers battled back and cut the lead to 2-1 after sophomore midfielder Natalia Guzman scored on a free kick into the upper right corner from 25 yards out with a minute left in the first half.
MiraCosta put the match away with goals in the 60th and 80th minute to take a 4-1 lead.
Irvine Valley got back on the board in the 86th minute on a goal by freshman forward Andrea Goana off an assist from freshman midfielder Jena Strever in the 86th minute.
IVC freshman keeper Sydnee Salamoff finished with six saves for the Lasers.
