Men's basketball team loses conference battle at Cypress

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team dropped its third straight Orange Empire Conference game, falling to Cypress, 61-55, on the road Friday night.

Irvine Valley's record went to 10-9 overall and 1-3 in conference. Cypress improved to 10-8 overall and 2-1 in conference.

Freshman guard Daniel Hernandez had his best game as a Lasers, finishing with a game-high 22 points.

He made 6 of 10 shots from the field, including going 4 of 5 on three-pointers and 6 of 6 from the free throw line.

Sophomore guard Anthony Hernandez added seven points, freshman guard Bekim Djokovich had seven points and freshman forward Lance Coleman II had six points and 13 rebounds.

O'Shae Williams led Cypress with 21 points to go along with five boards and two assists.

Chez Lister added 15 points and six rebounds off the bench. Jordan Rohan finished with 11 points and three assists for the Chargers.

It was a tightly contested game but the Chargers managed to maintain control for most of the way, trailing for less than two minutes of game action.

During the final three minute stretch, Cypress held a 55-49 lead.

Daniel Hernandez knocked down a three-pointer to bring the Lasers within three points.

But Williams responded with a contested 15-footer after an Irvine Valley timeout to put the game away with under a minute to go.

Irvine Valley plays again on the road next Wednesday, traveling to Orange Coast for a 7 p.m. contest.
