Coleman II's 32 points paces men's basketball team to a win

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team pulled out an 85-81 win over LA Valley on the road on Friday night behind another big performance from freshman forward Lance Coleman II.

Coleman finished with a season-high 32 points on 12 of 22 shooting from the field. He sank 3 of 6 three-pointers and made all five of his free throws.

The 32 points eclipsed his previous season best of 27 points, which he had done twice this season.

Coleman has scored in double figures in 15 of 16 games for the Lasers and topped 20 points or more in 10 contests. He leads the Orange Empire Conference and is now sixth in the state in scoring.

Irvine Valley trailed, 43-37, at the half, but out-scored LA Valley by 10 points in the second half.

LA Valley shot 52.6 percent (30 of 57) from the field, but IVC won the game at the line, making 18 of 21 attempts (85.7 percent), and on the glass, out-rebounding LA Valley, 33-21.

The Lasers also committed just 10 turnovers in the game.

Sophomore guard Zuri Williams added 15 points, five assists and three steals, sophomore guard Anthony Hernandez had nine points, seven rebounds and two steals, sophomore forward Zach Harvey finished with eight points and seven rebounds and freshman guard Bekim Djokovic chipped in eight points for IVC.

Dejwan Walker and Kevin Cabrera each scored 22 points to lead the way for LA Valley.

Irvine Valley, which improved its record to 9-6 overall, starts Orange Empire Conference play next. The Lasers host Santa Ana on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
