Irvine Valley athletics gained more distinction with the announcement of the Lasers' program finishing in the top 30 of the State Association Division as part of the prestigious Daktronics Cup competition.
IVC had already claimed 17th among all schools for community colleges in California in the National Alliance of Two-Year Collegiate Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup.
The Daktronics Cup State Association Division standings consisted of community colleges from California as well as those from Washington and Oregon
The State Association Division standings are tallied twice a year (fall and spring).
Irvine Valley finished 21st overall with 81 points in the top-30 ranking and the Lasers had the fewest sports (13) out of any of the schools in the top 30.
The Lasers were 18th among schools in California, 10th among schools in Southern California and one of four schools from the Orange Empire Conference in the standings.
Mt. San Antonio was the leading school with 162 points. Among OEC colleges, Riverside placd third with 159 points, Orange Coast was 11th with 112 points and Fullerton finished one spot ahead of IVC at 20th with 84 points.
Irvine Valley had strong seasons from its women's volleyball team, women's basketball team, men's tennis team and women's beach volleyball teams, which each won conference titles.
Those squads and the men's soccer team, women's tennis team and men's volleyball team also made the playoffs.
