Men's volleyball team rallies for win at Palomar

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team rallied to take the final two sets and beat Palomar in five sets in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference opener at Palomar on Wednesday night.

The Lasers came out on top, 25-16, 23-25, 20-25, 25-18, 15-9.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in conference. It was the Lasers' fifth win in their last six matches.

Freshman opposite Davis Cannon led Irvine Valley with 17 kills and nine digs. Cannon also hit .481 on the night.

Freshman middle blocker Kevin Vaz added 11 kills and nine blocks and freshman outside hitter AJ Hammer had 10 kills and five digs in the win.

Freshman setters John Lasezky and Steven Duhoux had 24 assists and 23 assists, respectively.

Irvine Valley hit just .219 in the match, but Palomar managed just .158.

Anthony Pippen led the Comets (3-5, 0-1) with 21 kills.

Irvine Valley is back in action on Friday when it hosts Grossmont in a conference match at 6 p.m.
