Men's volleyball team has win streak snapped

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team had its four-match win streak snapped Friday night in a nonconference contest at Long Beach City.

Long Beach City, the top team so far in the Western State Conference, beat IVC, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.

The match dropped Irvine Valley's record to 4-3 overall. Long Beach City improved to 6-1.

Long Beach City has captured six straight since falling to Orange Coast in its season opener on Jan. 29.

The match on Friday was Irvine Valley's final nonconference contest.

The team opens up Pacific Coast Conference action on Wednesday at Palomar. IVC is then home to Grossmont on Friday at 6 p.m.

For Irvine Valley, freshman outside hitter Cole Murray led with 12 kills while freshman middle blocker Kevin Vaz added nine kills and two aces.

Sophomore Dan Starkey and freshman Marques Buggs combined for 23 kills for Long Beach City.
