Men's basketball team never trails in win over Orange Coast

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team picked up its second win in Orange Empire Conference play with a 82-68 triumph over Orange Coast in its Coaches vs. Cancer game at IVC on Friday night.

Irvine Valley did so with one of its best performances of the season.

The Lasers shot 60.0 percent (27 of 45) for the game, including 42.1 percent (8 of 19) from three-point range.

IVC was even better in the opening half when it took the game over.

The Lasers shot 61.5 percent from the floor and made 7 of 12 three-pointers (58.3 percent) to grab a 45-25 lead at the half.

Irvine Valley led from start to finish in the contest and was up by as many as 24 points late in the second half.

IVC shared the ball nicely with 20 assists on its 27 made baskets.

Irvine Valley finished with four players in double figures in the game. Freshman guard Chris Lott paced IVC with 22 points. He made 8 of 16 shots from the field, including 6 of 12 three-pointers.

It was the third time this year he has scored 20 points or more.

Lott added six rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes.

Sophomore guard Jacob Short and sophomore forward Tanner Aguera each added 12 points. Aguera also had five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Short finished with four assists.

Sophomore forward Jacob Dean added 11 points and freshman guard Isaiah Milan contributed seven points, five assists and two steals.

For Orange Coast, Jamaal Lee had 21 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Kyle Lawson and Ibrahim Gerlach each added 12 points. Orange Coast out-rebounded Irvine Valley, 33-31, including getting 16 offensive rebounds in the contest, but the Pirates shot just 36.8 percent (21 of 57) from the field in the game.

Irvine Valley has a bye on Tuesday in conference action, but will play its final home game of the regular season next Thursday against Saddleback at 7 p.m. It is part of the President's Cup Series between the two district rivals.
