Men's basketball team can't get untracked at Cypress

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team got behind early and couldn't get untracked at Cypress on Friday.

Irvine Valley trailed, 42-14, at the half and went on to fall, 72-47, in an Orange Empire Conference game.

Irvine Valley's record fell to 12-6 overall and 0-2 in conference, while Cypress improved to 15-3 overall and 2-0 in conference.

Jordan Fleck led the Chargers with 18 points and eight rebounds while Jeremy Wright added 16 points and four assists on 6 of 11 shooting.

Freshman point guard Isaiah Milan led the Lasers with 11 points and three rebounds. Sophomore forward Craig Magyar had nine points and four rebounds and freshman guard Chris Lott chipped in nine points.

But Irvine Valley shot just 15 percent in the first half and 28.8 percent (15 of 52) for the game.

Cypress shot 54 percent (27 of 50) for the game and 52.4 percent (11 of 21) from three-point range.

The Chargers also out-rebounded Irvine Valley, 36-24.

Fleck and Wright combined for 23 points in the first half, propelling the Chargers to the 28-point advantage at the break.

It was Cypress' first victory over IVC since February, 18 2011 (64-62) and their largest margin of victory over the Lasers in school history.

Irvine Valley will try to bounce back next Wednesday at Orange Coast at 5 p.m.
