Irvine Valley's men's basketball team was not one of the 20 teams picked for the Southern California Regional Playoffs by coaches on Monday.

The Lasers came up just short after finishing with a record of 16-11 overall and 9-3 in the Orange Empire Conference.

Irvine Valley was playing its best basketball at the end of the season. It closed the regular season winning four straight in conference and five of its last six contests.

The final five teams into the playoffs were College of the Desert (13-13), Rio Hondo (16-12), Victor Valley (17-14), Bakersfield (18-10) and College of the Canyons (15-12).

IVC lost to Victor Valley by three points and defeated College of the Canyons in overtime this season.

Only one team out of the Orange Empire Conference made the playoffs. Saddleback, which won the conference, was seeded second in the playoffs.

Early season losses to Cuyamaca, El Camino and LA Valley, as well as a double overtime defeat at Santa Ana in Orange Empire Conference play cost Irvine Valley in its postseason bid.
