
Irvine Valley's women's badminton team clinched the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title on Wednesday with a 19-2 win over San Diego Mesa at home.
The win lifted Irvine Valley's record to 8-0 in conference with one match to go in the regular season for the Lasers.
Grossmont, which is in second place, has a record of 5-2 in conference play.
Irvine Valley won 10 of 12 singles contests and all five doubles matches.
IVC's top player, freshman Cora Tanuwidjaja defeated San Diego Mesa No. 1 Polly Huynh, 21-14, 21-14. Tanuwidjaja then topped Mai Truong, 21-7, 21-14.
The Lasers also got a pair of wins from freshman Stella Shao (No. 3), sophomore Tracey Nie (No. 4), sophomore Jessey Wang (No. 5) and sophomore Bo Ma (No. 6).
Shao won, 21-9, 21-7, and, 21-2, 21-7, while Nie came out on top, 21-12, 21-8, and, 21-12, 21-3.
Wang and Ma each earned one win by default.
In doubles action, IVC's No. 3 team of Shao and Bo picked up a win by default.
The top team of Tanuwidjaja and Nie won, 21-14, 21-7, over Huynh and Truong and, 21-4, 21-5, over the San Diego Mesa No. 2 team of Melanie Stewart and Minsun Jung.
At No. 2 doubles, IVC's duo of sophomore Peinhong Jiang and Wang won, 21-19, 21-13, and, 21-6, 21-10.
Irvine Valley closes out the regular season at home on Friday against Grossmont at 2 p.m.
