Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Oct. 23 is sophomore women's volleyball player Natalia Brandlin.
This is her second honor for IVC this season.
Brandlin, a 6-0 middle blocker recorded 20 kills, one ace, seven digs and 12 blocks in a pair of Irvine Valley wins last week. She also hit .528 over the two matches.
She had a special performance in IVC's, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23 Orange Empire Conference win over Golden West at home. The Lasers got revenge from an earlier loss to the Rustlers.
In the match, Brandlin recorded 15 kills, one ace, four digs, seven blocks and hit .609.
She followed that up with five kills, three digs and five blocks in the Lasers' 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 sweep at No. 10 Cypress in a conference match on Friday.
On the year, the former Edison High standout, is averaging 2.09 kills and 1.26 blocks per set and has a hitting percentage of .404.
Brandlin ranks first in the conference in blocks per set, second in hitting percentage and 13th in kills per set.
Statewide, Brandlin is second in hitting percentage and sixth in blocks per set.
Irvine Valley was ranked No. 7 in the state last week and has a record of 15-2 overall and is 9-1 and in first place in the OEC. The Lasers have won nine straight contests.
IVC hosts Santa Ana on Wednesday at home at 6 p.m.
