Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Jan. 8 is freshman women's basketball player Moka Saiki.

The shooting guard out of Portola High led Irvine Valley with 20 points in a 74-48 win at Palo Verde last Friday night.

The point total was tied a season best for Saiki.

She also added three rebounds and six steals in the contest, which moved IVC's record to 9-5 overall.

Saiki is averaging 11.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game on the year.

She leads the team in scoring and steals on the season.

Saiki is shooting 39.3 percent from three-point range, which is a team best and is also second in three-pointers made with 29.

She has scored in double figures nine times and topped 20 points twice.

Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday, hosting Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference game at 6 p.m.
