Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Jan. 13 is freshman men's basketball player Matt Mowers.
The standout post player finished with a game-high 27 points as the Lasers scored their biggest win of the season on Friday night.
IVC topped Riverside, 92-55, in an Orange Empire Conference game on the road.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 10-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Mowers went 12 of 14 from the field and 3 of 3 from the free throw line in the triumph.
He also added eight rebounds, two assists and one block.
It was the 14th game this season that Mowers has scored in double figures and the first time he has topped 20 points.
Mowers, out of Trabuco Hills High, is averaging 12.8 points on 61.0 percent shooting from the field on the season.
He is also averaging 5.7 rebounds and 1.1 steal per game for the Lasers.
